I have an incredibly laid-back husband and I feel completely blessed about that. But, there is one thing that he takes super seriously. So much so, that I don’t even attempt to make it for him for fear that I will mess it up.
Popcorn.
Yep, this man loves his popcorn. But don’t you dare buy him some from the store and put it in the microwave. Oh no. You gotta heat up a pan and pop it the way corn was meant to be popped – the old fashion way. We received an ear of popcorn in our CSA share last week. I was only excited because I knew Andy would be excited. So when I came home from strawberry picking, I saw that Andy had already dove in and started the process by literally taking each kernel off the cob.
In a large pan, put about 3 to 4 tablespoons of Canola oil and let it heat up for a few minutes. Then add the kernels.
(Please ignore the hideous wallpaper in the kitchen. It is a work in progress.)
Cover the pan and shake it on the burner to mix the kernels. You should hear them start to pop. Keep up that shakin’ until the pops are about two to three seconds apart. Once you hear that, it means that most, if not all, of your kernels have made their transformation! Carefully pour the popcorn into your favorite bucket and salt to taste.
I am not one who considers herself a huge popcorn fan. But I must admit, that if I do eat popcorn, I prefer it this way. Even my dog, Clark, is a fan.
Pop pop,
